Playoffs tomorrow and we need a few subs (and last weeks recaps at the end of it):12 pm (Rec): 1 Female2 pm (D3): 1 Female, 1 Male4 pm (D2): 1 Male 5 pm (D2): 1 Female6 pm (D1): 1 Goalie, 3 Males7 pm (D1): 2 Males8 pm (D1): 4 MalesAs promised by my good friend High Stick Harry, I am revealing my true identity. My name is Sammy Merzel, and I am the ICEHOLE.It is good to be back. Weekends without games are like springs without flowers, bicycles without chains, or cigarettes without a light. Each continues to exist but without the ability to enjoy them to the fullest. The first week of the playoffs were fantastic. I will do my best to match High Stick Harry’s exquisite ability to give out nicknames like the Easter Bunny gives out candy.SLASHING PUMPKINS vs. BIG DEKE ENERGYFinal 2-5Energy picked the right time to beat the Pumpkins for the first time this season. The Pumpkins played hard but unfortunately; they were smashed. It was a huge day for the young stars of the league. Ajeet “the Engineer” Goraya and Mateo “Matchbox” Lim each scored twice, and Kyle “Clutch” Shulman also netted a goal. Alex “the Beast” Jones and Jenny “Primetime” Olkewicz accounted for the Smashed Pumpkins’ only goals but the absence of some of their starters left them disarmed. Energy’s Kim “IntensiKIM” Burgess’s defense could not be overcome.STICK-PHIL-A vs. GWENDOLYN BLUE KNIGHTSFinal 3-1Despite an incredible game by Cara “Closed for Business” Burgess minding the net, the Stick’s managed to score three goals. In my opinion, Closed for Business had one of her best games of the season. In one series, CFB blocked six point-blank shots including two diving saves that defied physics. In the end, Jason “the Soldier” Sauler, Salty Morton, and Marcus “Luau” Lau’s relentless shooting and the inability of the Knights to clear the ball out of their zone bested CFB. This was truly a great game to watch. Kudos to both teams.UNTOUCHABLES vs. STINGRAYSFinal 7-3Ouch! The Rays had no sting. The Untouchables’ offense was unstoppable and Thorny Rose looked like the victim of firing squad killing an innocent man. My far, Justin “yo-yo” Yarros was the most impressive player on the floor. His hat-trick and assist deflated the Rays’ hopes of advancing to the next round. Tway “Tee Tee” Twele, Stadium Shea, and Steve “Pinata” Pineau scored the other four goals. Chris “Thunder” Thorp and Chucky Linderg’s goals were simply not enough to overcome the onslaught.I.P.A vs THE ALL BLACKSFinal 2-3In the day’s most controversial game, the All Blacks, fielding more subs than a subway restaurant, looked like a different team. Family Guy Griffin, Thorny Rose, and Kenny “Powers” Stack scored a goal apiece leading to them to a victory against the favorites. I.P.A.’s TT Twele and Sumit “Mountain High” Dulani did their best to comeback from a three-goal deficit, but Michael “Silver” Silber kept them from the elusive third goal to finish the comeback.FUNKMASTERS vs. DIPLOMACYFinal 5-4This was a close and exciting game. The Funk escaped with a win behind the heroics of Family Guy Griffin, Justin “Brewman” Brennan, Owen “Dwight” Evans, and Edie “Shoots” Schutz. Going into the third, it looked as if Aaron “Brawny” Broun’s second period goal was to be Diplomacy’s last until Yosemite Brinker, the Italian Stallion, and Ben “the Bruiser” Purse dominated the third and nearly completed a comeback. Ultimately, the Funk held on sending the Diplomacy back to their dilapidated embassy.DIPLOMACY vs. RIDICULOUSFinal 7-4Unlike my college life, there was a ton of scoring in this game. It looked good for the Ridiculous with Michael “English Muffin” Thomas, Matt “Wilt” Chamberlin (yes, I know Wilt spells his last name differently), and Dwight Evans netting three goals in the first two periods. It was a 3-3 tie until the Diplomacy started scoring like Matthew McConaughy at a singles bar. The Italian Stallion, Brawny Broun, Dominic “Domination” Gonzalez, Brennan “Guy” Gui, and Yosemite Brinker were just too ridiculous.NEXT WEEK, PUCKSTADAMOUS’ IDENTITY WILL BE UNVAILED. TUNE IN. ... Sub Post for tomorrow and below that the recap of last weeks game with a HUGE reveal!3 pm (D3): 4 Males5 pm (D2): 2 Males, 1 Female6 pm (D1): 2 Goalies, 4 Males7 pm (D1): 2 Goalies, 5 Males, 1 Female8 pm (D1): 2 Goalies, 5 MalesRECAPHigh Stick Harry here with a special recap. The Clapper’s identity is finally revealed, and it is none other than your favorite Italian Stallion, James Farace. The entire DCHL community thanks you for devoting so much time and energy to recapping each week’s matchups. Without your dedication and creativity, the heroics of our players would be unheralded. Well done, James!Rec:PUCK DRAGON V. DCHLADIESFinal 1-1Led by Thomas “the Britt” Richardson and Alberto Salvado’s outstanding goalie play, both teams gave up just one goal. This does not take away from either team’s offensive play. There were plenty of shots taken and with them, an array of physics-defying saves. The teams battled to the very end. The tension was high, the energy was tremendous, but the Puck Dragons managed to finish the season undefeated. Jim “Dealer” Lindsay netted the Dragon’s only score, and the Ladies’ Levi “Dungarees” Adelman’s impressive wrister was the only ball to get past the Britt.D3:STICK-PHIL-A V. GERI-HAT-TRICKSFinal 3-4Jeremy “Salty” Morton was on fire scoring three of the Tricker’s four goals. Tricia “the Machine” Tyler had one of her best games of the season dishing out passes like James at a singles bar. The Sticks’ Tom “Lincoln” Abraham, Madison “Lullaby” Lau, and David “the Club” Schriner each scored a goal, with help from Shai “the Jinx” Kornblau’s two assists. But the Trickers have not lost since February 9 and their hot streak continued. They earned themselves a first-round bye with their second-place finish.STINGRAYS v. FLAMINGOALSFinal 4-6These teams are loaded with talent. With players like Owen “Dwight the Light” Evans, Madison “Lullaby” Lau, Brian “Pinpointasaski” Piernikowski, and Sam “Lightning” Brinker, the Flames proved hard to beat this season. The Rays put up a valiant fight behind the superb play from Megan “Furiousa” Noyes, Nantel “Chevy” Suzuki, Tricia “the Machine” Tyler and Brian “Family Guy” Griffin, but Maxie “Mad Maxie” Weisz kept the Rays from ever taking the lead.UNTOUCHABLES v. I.P.A.Final 2-7I.P.A. did to the Untouchables what Al Capone’s goons did to Sean Connery in the 1987 Kevin Costner classic. Spoiler alert. They killed him, and Aaron “Machine Gun” Broun was the hired assassin. Five, count them, FIVE goals in the game. Four of them scored before the final period. One heck of a game by any stretch of imagination. Rachel “Eagle Eye” Israel scored the other two goals for I.P.A. Geoff “the Grill” Leinenweber kept the Untouchables scoreless through two periods only allowing the Family Guy and Azarya “AZ” Yunger to net two late game goals.Next week, the ICEHOLE returns to recap the first weekend of playoffs. He or She promises to reveal their identity… stay tuned. ... See MoreSee Less
