At the end of August, one of DCHL's most impactful players moved to Maine. Rachel Israel has played a major role in the development of women's ball hockey, the growth of our travel teams, and has been an integral part of so many championship winners. It's hard to overstate the impact she's had on our women's ball hockey community over the past several years.![]()

Rachel has been a driving force in growing the women's game here. An ice hockey player in the local area herself, she was a huge advocate for ball hockey, introducing many of her ice hockey friends to the sport. She's recruited countless women to pick up a stick and start playing, and any time there was a new lady coming into the league, we could hand her off to Rachel, who would tirelessly follow up to make sure she showed up, played, and had a good time.![]()

As a captain and leader of First Ladies, Rachel helped the program grow from a single Women's B team into fielding both B and C teams. The Women's C travel tournaments would not have happened without Rachel's work behind the scenes advocating for its inclusion and even helping out-of-town teams find enough ladies to field a roster. She also helped organize the DMVs, our local team that competed in Women's A.![]()

When the NBHL women's division opened up, Rachel was instrumental in making it happen in the DMV. She put in countless hours of her own time convincing enough women to join so the division could get off the ground. Additionally, she captained the DC Daiquiris as the inaugural NBHL DC Women's champion.![]()

Beyond the women's game, Rachel coordinated and captained coed travel teams for years. She was the passion behind Beach Bash champion DC Venom, the driving force behind the Mayhem teams and the Backstrom Boys COED teams which won multiple COED C and COED B tournaments.![]()

In our local leagues, Rachel got her start with House Bolton back in 2016, moving on to Goonies before creating Flamingoals, now playing as Pink Pony Hockey Club in D2 after COVID, and also suiting up for Oshies 11 in D1. Both teams have won many championships along the way. Her splash into Wednesday hockey involved the Crease Crashers, scoring goals and looking fantastic in the best jerseys in DCHL history (maybe). Not content with winning championships in ice hockey and ball hockey, Rachel founded the Roller Hockey Desert Penguins, which won three championships in a row in the rec division. Rachel is a skilled player with great hockey IQ, shot, and always deceptively stronger on her stick than you would expect.![]()
