PRactice and Game Details
Practices run 5-7pm on Wednesdays and are drop in style, come and leave as works for you and your kids. At a typical practice, the first half hour or so we gather and shoot around followed by 30-60 minutes of drills and then do some scrimmaging.
Games are on Saturdays. The smaller kids play the first hour and the bigger kids play second hour. In general, younger kids are 4-8 and bigger kids are 8-13. Please check with us at practice to see which group your kid(s) fits better in and we may break into smaller groups depending on numbers too.
Equipment Information
We have sticks you can use to start. Eventually you can purchase one piece sticks from total hockey in the $25-50 range will be plenty good for our league.
Hockey helmets with cage are required for during our live play (and recommended otherwise). You can get these at great prices, lightly used at Replay Sports right around the corner from the Sportsplex off Gude. They’re open most days of the week until 5pm and you can easily go in before practice. You can tell them we sent you. We have a few to borrow if needed. You can also get helmets new at Total Hockey or online but they’ll cost more.
We also strongly recommend shin guards (either soccer type ones or street hockey specific by Mylec is our recommendation the mk3 or mk5). These also cover the knees. Measure in inches from top of foot to top of knee to see size fit for hockey shin guards. This is more important as the kids age up.
The last Recommended equipment is gloves but not too many of the smaller children wear them they get more important as they age up.
We also have a stock of youth street hockey goalie equipment of all sizes for the kids to try out playing goalie whenever they want. However if a child is going to be playing goalie often I would recommend bringing a cup for protection.
